The publication is a unique invitation to the South Moravian Region. Containing historic photographs and illustrative pictures, 1204 colour photos in total, supplemented by carefully subedited short texts, the book presents almost 80 towns and villages of South Moravia. It makes you acquainted with 121 cultural historical objects and monuments of the region, which include such architectonic jewels like the Lednice-Valtice area, the Villa Tugendhat, the Monastery Porta coeli, castles Bítov and Pernštejn, chateaux Slavkov near Brno, Bučovice, Moravský Krumlov and also technical monuments – the Brno Underground, Baťa Canal as well as windmills in the Moravian Karst. Beside nature and landscape attractions (Podyjí area, Moravian Karst, Pavlov Hills), the book introduces you to historic matters of interest (The Věstonice Venus, Great Moravia, the Luxemburgs in Moravia, battle at Austerlitz), it takes you to fascinating pilgrimage (The Church of Our Lady in Křtiny, Holy Hill near Mikulov) and archaeological sites (Mikulčice Slavic Fortified Settlement), to regional museums and galleries (Moravian Gallery, The Masaryk Museum). It introduces 54 famous personalities linked with the region (T. G. Masaryk, L. Janáček, G. J. Mendel), folk traditions (the Kunštát ceramic, the Olešnice blue print), individual viticultural regions, but e.g. also important companies operating in the region. It focuses on 21 tourist attractions from abroad too (castles Falkenstein, Hardegg, the Niedersulz Village Museum). The prospective visitors will certainly appreciate useful informations about cultural and sports events, calendar of events and an offer of accommodation and restaurant facilities.
